Here's the deal:  a bunch of fledgling professional musicians are placed in an ensemble for a two-year period and are given free rein to program -- and their programming is usually great.  Here we have a new piece by List fave Gabriella Smith and pieces by former Greatest Living Composer (then he died) György Ligeti (the lively Six Bagatelles for Wind Quintet), possible current Greatest Living Composer Kaija Saariaho, and, lets not forget, ace polyrhythmist Brahms.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:  Champagne bar Flute is pretentious.  The idea is pretentious.  The food is pretentious.  The decor is pretentious.  The whole thing is pretentious.  But you know what?  It's also kind of fun.
