Pontus Lidberg's The Shimmering Asphalt was the best New York City Ballet commission by someone not named Ratmansky or Peck in the last several years.  So it's hard not to be very excited about this new piece -- roughly inspired by Homer, but put into the context of the social effects of social media -- performed by Lidberg's own company.  (Note that on Thursday you reserve your ticket for free in advance and then pay them what you think the show was worth afterward.)

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:  Cheerful Venezuelan food at the cheerful Venezuelan restaurant El Cocotero (I guess everybody's cheerful because they're not currently in Venezuela).
