Hannah Lash is one of the freshest, best-listening composers around right now. Her sound is solidly grounded in past styles, but her uses of tones and materials are freshly contemporary. This has been a big year for her fans, what with the release of the first album-length survey of Lash's music (great!), and now this brand-new chamber opera. It's scored for three voices and string quartet — and the quartet is JACK!
