It's ridiculous how many truly splendid Early Music vocal ensembles there are right now — and Belgium's Vox Luminis is one of them. The title piece here is Scarlatti's Stabat Mater (not to be confused with Pergolesi's Stabat Mater from last week). Among the other stuff on the bill is Monteverdi's supernal Lamenta della Ninfa — as far as I'm concerned, the first doo-wop song.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: If you want food as well as drink, Emporium Brasil (be sure to have at least one of the savory pastry salgados as an initial cocktail snack) (you are having at least one caipirinha, right?). Or you can bag the food and go to The Rum House.
