A really good program from the East Coast Chamber Orchestra. The big draw from our perspective is a New York premiere by Christopher Cerrone. Cerrone writes melodically, but in an unconventional way; his The Pieces That Fall to Earth has to be the strongest contender for my favorite classical album of the year. But look what else you'll hear: Mahler's arrangement of Beethoven's eleventh string quartet; Gemiani's Baroque La Follia variations (is La Follia the catchiest snatch of music Europe has ever produced? I vote "yes"); a Clara Schumann arrangement cuz you can't have a concert in 2019 without some Clara Schumann on the bill; and Shai Wosner, a Classical stylist always worth hearing, playing Mozart's fresh-as-a-breeze Piano Concerto No. 14.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Why fight it? Italian charmer Sfloglia is right across the street.
