After sitting through Porgy and Bess at the Met, now we can see what Gershwin was good (no, GREAT) for. In this satirical piece, a sitting president stages a coup after losing reelection. But (SARCASM ALERT) don't let the unimaginable absurdity of a premise that could never happen in the U.S. put you off — this is great stuff. MasterVoices' concert revivals of old musicals are always really good — and the Orchestra of St. Luke's in the pit is certainly luxury casting.
