I tend to dislike those concerts where some pop musician recreates, with great pomp and reverence, a classic album. Such shows lose all the surprise and spontaneity that we go to pop concerts for. That said, Mos Def's backpack hip-hop classic Black on Both Sides was a REALLY great album. Anyway, better this than going to a museum to listen to his new one. This show by a Brooklyn native son sold out in less than two hours — but one suspects tickets are floating around if you really want them.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Before the show, go to Brooklyn Red-Sauce Classic Frost for the lulz if nothing else. I always seem to end up at that awesome wine bar Four Horsemen after Brooklyn Steel shows.
