Daxophone Consort: HARD WOOD

America's only extant daxophone consort! A daxophone is an instrument invented by a German maniac, consisting of a finely wrought wooden blade fixed to a block. The blade is usually bowed, although it can also be plucked or struck. The promotional materials for this event describe the instrument as sounding somewhere between a cello and a badger, which is about right. This show features a new piece for daxophone consort by no less than Alvin Lucier(who's just the guy to write such a piece). There'll also be some improvisations, and a new collaboration with experimental vocalist / cantorJudith Berkson. Frankly, if you've been to one daxophone recital, that's probably enough -- but if you haven't been to any, you might want to remedy that.
