The Wixárika of Western Mexico are perhaps the only indigenous people of Latin America to have resisted Christianization and held on to their traditional cosmogony and spiritual traditions. And, of course, they have music: voice accompanied by local variants of the violin and guitar. Here, a Wixárikan father-and-son duo play their music as arranged by Philip Glass and accompanied by him on piano. It's sold out, so watch for last-minute availability.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: The People's Republic of China is trying to effect Chinese/Himalayan fusion in a bad way. At Red Paper Clip, two veterans of Blue Hill at Stone Barns attempt to effect that fusion in a good way — on the plate.
