When performance artist/pop star Laurie Anderson played a stand during the last days of the free-standing Stone in the East Village a few years ago, the emphasis was on instrumental improvisation on violin and keyboard — totally consistent with the Stone's mission, but not at all what Anderson normally does.  The results were interesting — improvisation lets you really get inside someone's head — but suggested Anderson should not quit her day job.  One assumes this Stone-sponsored residency will have a similar focus.
