Don't tell Schubert, but I almost prefer his faux naif song cycle Die Schöne Müllerin with the accompaniment played on guitar rather than piano. But the reason this gets Listed is the animations by Kevork Mourad abstracting the dreamscape in the poor lovelorn protagonist's mind. Guitarist/composer David Leisner made and plays the transcription of the accompaniment; the excellent baritone Michael Kelly sings.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Schubert didn't live nearly long enough to make it to Adolf Loos's American Bar (he'd have to have been 105, whereas he didn't even make it to 32). But you know he'd have gone if he did. And probably he'd have drunk a cocktail formulated by the great architect himself, the Fein G'Spritzer: pour 2 oz. Champagne into a Champagne flute. Top with 1 oz. Perrier.
