While Monteverdi and the late Italian madrigalists were doing Renaissance-into-Baroque in Italy, Joseph Chabanceau de la Barre and other composers of Airs de Cours were doing the same thing in a quite different, more refined and less dramatic, way in France.  This music isn't just exquisite — it's mega-hyper-über-exquisite.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT:   The name's in English, but the cocktail is French through and through:  Yellow Cocktail:  pour 3/4 oz. each of Gin, Suze, yellow Chartreuse, and lemon juice into an ice-filled cocktail shaker.  Shake.  Strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupe.  Garnish with a lemon twist.
