The stage version of this staged cantata was supposed to tour to the Baryshnikov Arts Center this year, but, you know. So the director/librettist/driving force of the work, the Russian visual/performancer artist Vera Martynov, reconceived it as a video production (as one does these days). Alexey Sysoev's music is, as a general rule, piquant.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Russian Cocktail (although David Wondrich says it comes from New Orleans): pour 1-1/2 oz. Vodka (you thought it would use Gin???), 3/4 oz. Cherry Heering, and 1/4 oz. Kirschwasser into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Stir. Strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupe. Garnish with a cocktail cherry.
