Coming off the absolute triumph of his recent violin concerto honoring fellow composer Marcos Balter, Tyshawn Sorey presents a new cello concerto honoring AACM mainstay and American Music Giant Roscoe Mitchell. The soloist is Seth Parker Woods, who is, to put it bluntly, phenomenal. Along with a piece by COVID survivor Brett Dean, the remainder of the program features Beethoven's hugely enjoyable Fourth Symphony, which in happier times I'd have been pleased to come over to your house and whistle for you, start to finish.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Is there a better nightcap than a Vieux Carré? While we're wondering, let's make one: pour 3/4 oz. each of Rye, Cognac, and sweet Vermouth and 1 teaspoon of Bénédictine, with two dashes each of Angostura and Peychaud's bitters, into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Stir. Strain into an Old Fashioned glass over ice. Garnish with a lemon twist.
