Over the course of four concerts (two today and two tomorrow; three parts per show), the Phillip Glass Ensemble — which no longer includes Glass himself — plays this defining piece of early Minimalism, the summum of the first phase of Glass's mature composing career. It's loud. It's long. It's absolutely riveting.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Unbelievably, Da Toscano, the new restaurant from Michael Toscano — one of the best Italian chefs in New York before he decamped for Charleston (but now he's back!) — will still be serving after both these shows. (Those who'd assert that Toscano's admittedly heavy food is too much at 11 PM should read a different List.)
