I've sung pianist Kris Davis's praises enough that I don't need to repeat it. A distinctive, angular style; great bands (this an excellent trio); compositions as fascinating as her improvisations. Listen up.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Vancouver: pour 2 oz. Gin, 1/2 oz. sweet Vermouth, 1 teaspoon Benedictine, and 2 dashes of orange bitters into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Stir. Strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist.
