Another couple of afternoons of Free Jazz in a garden. On Saturday, the trio opening at 1:30 PM features Cuban great Francisco Mela on drums and the fabulous New Yorker-from-Haiti Anaïs Maviel on vocals (don't know reedsman Daro Behroozi, but anyone playing in that company's bound to be good). Later on in the afternoon, we see the titanic bassist William Parker playing in trombonist Steve Swell's quartet at 4:00 PM. On Sunday, futuristic trombonist Ayumi Ishito plays with reed master Daniel Carter and a theremin(!). Later on, you'll have to listen past spoken word to hear great bassists Luke Stewart (at 3:30 PM) and, again, Parker (at 4:00 PM).

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Before and early on, the best appetizing in the entire world at Russ & Daughters Cafe. Later and afterward, good modish Russian at Tzarevna.
