The American avant-garde indeed: Cage, Oliveros, Phil Niblock, Christian Wolff, and S.E.M.'s own Petr Kotik. And what Czechs! Lucie Vitková on accordion, Hana Kotková on violin, and Kotik conducting (he gets to be both Czech and American).
