It figures that John Adams would have an affinity with Sibelius — but the Tchaikovskian First Symphony???? Bartók's ice-hot Music for Strings, Percussion & Celesta — a piece that any rock fan can love that I like to play for people who mistakenly think they don't like any Mainstream Classical — that figures better. And orchestral Steve Reich, that just figures.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Charming UWS bistro La Boite en Bois claims to be open on Mondays — and pretty late, too. I'm not sure I believe them.
