A contemporary retelling of the Tristan and Isolde legend — except in this version, Iseult is the warrior (a boxer, actually) and Tristan is the healer.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Really you should drink a magic love potion — but I can't find a recipe for one. Lacking that, there's a Love Potion Cocktail, but yuck; and an Isolde Cocktail, but it calls for wild strawberries, so unless you're reading this in someplace like Buenos Aires or Sydney or Capetown, you're out of luck. So we have two possibilities: Irish Maid: muddle 2 cucumber slices in a cocktail shaker. Pour in 2 oz. Irish Whiskey, 1/2 oz. St-Germain, and 3/4 oz. each of lemon juice and Simple Syrup. Add ice. Shake. Strain into a rocks glass over ice. Garnish with another cucumber slice. OR Cornwall Negroni: pour 2 oz. Gin and 1/2 oz. each of Punt e Mes, sweet Vermouth, and Campari, with 2 dashes of orange bitters, into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Stir. Strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupe. Flame an orange peel into the drink and use the flamed peel as a garnish.
