Tyshawn Sorey is the walking embodiment of post-genre: a crucially important jazz musician who's also a crucially important classical composer — not that he recognizes a difference between them (nor that you should). Just to slam home how umissable this is, the performing trio is rounded out by no less than Joe Lovano and Bill Frisell!

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: The Monte Carlo/Last Word mashup the Monte Cassino* (see, that's where the first Benedictine Abbey was) is my current Number One Cocktail Obsession: pour 3/4 oz. each of Rye, Bénédictine, yellow Chartreuse, and lemon juice into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake. Strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist.
