Is it really 25 years since pianist Jason Lindner was the mainstay of the Smalls jazz scene, leading a renaissance of small-group jazz in New York? Good musician that he is, he hasn't stopped listening and evolving, and his current ensemble is more R&B-tinged than his early stuff was — and he's playing some electronics now. Nothing wrong with that.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Battle of New Orleans: pour 2-1/2 oz. Bourbon, 1/4 oz. Simple Syrup, and 1/4 teaspoon of Absinthe, with 2 dashes of Peychaud's bitters and 1 dash of orange bitters, to an Old Fashioned glass over ice. Stir. Garnish with a lemon twist.
