Ukraine celebrates 30 years of independence with this contemporary music festival emanating from various venues in New York. The first night focuses on new pieces by young Ukrainian composers. Saturday night's show focuses on the avant-garde music of the '60s (and the '60s extension in the early '70s), part of an efflorescence of such material that encompassed pretty much the entire West (including parts behind what was then the Iron Curtain) in that halcyon period. Sunday afternoon, electro-acoustic works. Performers include the Mivos Quartet, the Talea Ensemble, and Lucie Vitkóvá: we're in good hands

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Great Gatsby: pour 1 oz. each of Vodka and Lillet Blanc and 2-1/2 oz. grapefruit juice into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake. Strain into a glass big enough to hold it all, over ice. Garnish with an orange slice.
