National Sawdust's annual commission program for early-stage female-identifying, trans, and non-binary composers always turns up some winners. So it doesn't bother me that I'm unfamiliar with any of tonight's composers (who for the record are Flannery Cunningham, Jimena Maldonado, Sonya Mutić, Amanda Feery, Lauren Siess, Alicia Jane Turner, and Tan Yuting (wait no actually I think I know Lauren Siess). As a special treat, for this year's installment the National Sawdust Ensemble will be joined as performers by vocal/movement/electronics ensemble Constellation Chor.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Special prize (to be determined) to anyone who can figure out why I'm recommending a Painkiller with this show: pour 2 oz. each of Navy Rum and pineapple juice, and 1 oz. each of orange juice and coconut cream, into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake. Strain into a Collins or Highball glass over ice. Garnish with some grated nutmeg.
