Beethoven's Serioso Quartet, sandwiched between arrangements, transcriptions, and reinventions of Baroque pieces, mostly by Modern Italian composers (but also Kurtág, who did some of the best Bach transcriptions of all — but these are some of his unmatchable original pieces).

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Blessed Thistle Negroni: pour 1 oz. each of Gin and Campari, and 1/4 oz. each of Amaro CioCiaro and Cardamaro, with 1 dash of Angostura bitters, into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Stir. Strain into a rocks glass or tumbler over ice. Garnish with an orange slice.
