Brooklyn can be grateful — and Chicago can regret — that trumpeter Jaimie Branch moved here. Her rough, exploratory sound graces our scene. Here she plays in a jazz trio and an electronic duo.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: If you go to the venue, it'll be nice to walk around the corner to the welcoming anddelicious Kind of Soul. At home, rub it in (and help celebrate Jaimie's birthday) with a Chicago: rub the rim of a Champagne flute with lemon juice and rim it with sugar. Pour 2 oz. Brandy and 1/4 teaspoon Cointreau, with 1 dash of Angostura bitters, into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Stir. Strain into the rimmed flute. Top with Champagne.
