George Brassens was like a French Leonard Cohen, a poet who somehow contrived to write compelling melodies to support his words — although Brassens was less self-involved (not meant as a criticism, my fellow Cohen fanatics!) and melodically more varied (ditto!). Pierre de Guillande has done the Anglophone world the the distinct service of crafting faithful translations of Brassens's lyrics that perfectly fit the melodies. You willl thank me for this one.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: If you go, you'll be drinking at the venue, obvs. Soak them up with some basic bistro at Olivier Bistro. Livestreaming at home, have a Triple Ménace: pour 1-1/2 oz. Gin, 1 oz. Lilet Blanc, and 1/2 oz. Suze into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Stir. Strain into a tumbler (or rocks glass if you don't care about being stylish) over ice. Garnish with an orange or lemon twist.
