Assembling dance companies from around the world, the Battery Dance Festival has, over its 40 years of existence, maintained an astonishingly high level of quality (there's a lot of great dance out there in the world!).

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: If you go (and I mean come on: this is dance), one of the great anomalies of New York dining is that the Southern Italian restaurant at Wagner Park is actually good: Gigino. (You'll have to go before the show, though.) If you insist on the greatly inferior experience (almost to the point of wasting your time) of watching at home, ameliorate things with a few Royal Bermuda Yacht Clubs: pour 2 oz. Rum, 1/4 oz. Cointreau, 1/2 oz. Velvet Falernum, and 3/4 oz. lime juice into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake. Strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupe.
