A glittering program — conducted by Marin Alsop — of some Rimsky (you can probably guess what) and, as you’d expect of a Brazilian orchestra showing the flage in New York CIty, a lot of Villa-Lobos. But it’s Listed in particular for Villa-Lobos’s jaunty, lyrical, immensely entertaining Harmonica Concerto (José Staneck, soloist — the original soloist was John Sebastian’s namesake father!), which never ever gets played here.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: It’s surprising how uncharacteristically early Midtown’s Brazilian restaurants now close (have they forgotten they’re Brazilian?). The best I can do is tell you to walk over to Churrascaria Plataforma (it’ll build up an appetite: you’ll need it!).
