David Geffen Hall opens itself up to the public, in Lincoln Center’s new non-High-Culture-centric multi-culti fashion, for a whole weekend of all-day (and in Saturday’s case all-night) free performances — taking place in various venues throughout the Hall, including ones you might not have heard of yet (wonder what and where the “Music Box” is?). Just to pick out some performances of particular List interest, on Saturday, we have Anthony McGill and Jennifer Koh (it’s doesn’t get any better than that) appropriately opening things up with Steve Reich’s New York Counterpointat 10:00 AM; the Juilliard Orchestra doing Haydn under David Robertson at 12:30 & 2:30 PM; Sõ Percussion doing Julia Wolfe at 3:00 PM; Nona Hendryx at 7:00 PM; competing shows by Justin Vivian Bond, Bora Yoon and R. Luke Dubois (digitally), and Dayramir Gonzalez at 8:00 PM; and the List’s favorite band thingNY at 8:30 PM. Even Sunday’s “Family Day” programming yields Hotel Elefant (playing music by Very Young Composers) at 4:00 PM and the extreme pleasure of Basil Twist (puppets!) at noon and 2:30 PM.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: These two days just cry out for some oysters and a Martini, and then a Cadallac Burger, at P.J. Clarke’s.
