Lukas Foss — an almost absurdly gifted musician — was sort of a bridge between the Midcentury American Symphonists and the Late-20th Century Avant-Garde, and he wrote a lot of music that ought to be heard more than it is. Tonight, one of the orchestras he used to lead (another was our own lamented Brooklyn Philharmonic) pays tribute to him in the centennial of his birth year. This List would like to go on record as believing that JoAnn Falletta is a criminally underrated conductor.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: The Donburiya izakaya is so much fun you’ll almost forget you’re in MIdtown.
