There is no hotter composer around than Jessie Montgomery, whose music is vivacious and bracing (and who understands strings inside out). Here it’s played — with a ringer by Astor Piazzolla and a group improvisation — by her old band, the excellent PUBLIQuartet, and her current (intermittent: being the hottest composer around takes up a lot of her time) band, Big Dog Little Dog (a duo with ace of bass Eleanore Oppenheim). A splendid time is guaranteed for all.
