MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: I continue to think the historically informed Spanish/Moorish/Jewish food at La Vara is some of the best in Brooklyn (which is to say, in New York City) — even if the menu has gotten less conceptually specific now that it’s the last remaining of the owners’ Spanish restaurants (although menu item Judias a la Plancha does sound like what the Spanish Inquisition would do if they found any stay-behinds after The Expulsion).
