Look at this! An NY Phil concert that’s recommendable from start to finish! It’s Listable because of a new piece by the mellifluous Sarah Kirkland Snider. But look what else you get: Barber’s gorgeous Violin Concerto, an absolute high point of 1930s American Neo-Romanticism, played by Hillary Hahn, no less (too bad conductor Jaap van Zweden is virtually incapable of conveying lush warmth) and Mahler’s First: the only symphony in the Standard Rep that has both “Frere Jacques” and Klezmer in it.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: I don’t know about you, but I’m going to Gallaghers Steakhouse for steak grilled over wood. A Martini will also be involved.
