You want to dismiss the Kronos Quartet as relics. But while their World Music tendencies used to seem hippyish and appropriative, they now seem right on point. And rather than remaining stuck in their era like a Classic Rock band, they instead keep it fresh with pieces from current composers. (I do wish their string sound weren’t so wirey, though.) Tonight they participate in one of filmmaker Sam Green’s “live documentaries”, with music played by the Quartet providing a key “live” component of this documentary account of their career. If that sounds too self-congratulatory to you (as it does to me), there’s always the opening act, that peerless vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth.
