Imagine: a contemporary guitar rock band playing intricate music that gets better and better with each album. It’s like somebody forgot to tell them that kind of music is over. The only caveat is that Black Midi’s last couple of albums have been lifted by arrangements featuring extraneous instruments, and you have to wonder how it will come across played live by the band.
