We’re going to forget our commitment to formally inventive living art for a moment (it’s very hot out!) and deign to recommend a concert that’s simply lovely. You get Barber’s lovely voice-and-orchestra piece Knoxville: Summer of 1915. You get George Walker’s lovely string orchestra piece Lyric for Strings. You get Copland’s lovely concert suite from Appalachian Spring. And you get some Mozart opera arias that, in this context, are only lovely. The exciting soprano Jeanine De Bique sings. You won’t be challenged, you won’t be surprised, you won’t be deeply affected, your horizons won’t expand. You might even get a little bored. But you’ll be pleasantly bathed in loveliness.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Good basic bistro at Bar Boulud.
