Has George Lewis — the current Artistic Director of this peerless Ensemble — acceded to the position of Dean of American Composers? Certainly seems so: it’s hard to think of a living American composer who’s better or more authoritative. Lots of Lewis on this program. Also pieces by Lewis’s AACM colleagues Wadada Leo Smith and Nicolle Mitchell (who guests on flute). And so this isn’t entirely a program of Olds, the extremely exciting Jessie Cox.
