Listening obsessively to the major-label Alt Classical (with some Hildegard) vocal recital Emily D’Angelo put out earlier this year, I’ve alternated between thinking she’s oversinging in trad operatic manner and that the whole thing is fucking great. Here, she’s going again from Hildegard to Alt Classical — but with some stops in the Late 19th Century along the way. That the composers are women doesn’t help. I say it’s spinach, and I say the hell with it. But the other stuff . . . .
