First, two trippy bands. Darsombra crosses Prog with performance art; it works cuz they understand it’s funny. Ala Muerta totally spaces out. And then, three fascinating and stylisticly unique improvisers (who also happen to be three of this List’s very favorites) — Zoh Amba on sax, Sally Gates on guitar, and Brian Chase on drums — combine to go who knows where.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: The food at the venue, Mama Tried, is totally edible. The drinks are fine (they make their own vermouth!).
