John Cage’s Ryoanji was inspired by a Kyoto zen rock garden Cage had visited. As conceived by composer/musician/vocalist Tomomi Adachi, this production is performed simultaneously by the International Contemporary Ensemble playing Western instruments in New York City and musicians in Kanazawa City, Japan singing and playing an ancient Japanese instrument, united by the low-latency technology that’s one of the nice offshoots of The Lockdown. Meanwhile, there’ll be 3D depictions of the sand in the garden.
