I was staying once in the Medina of Marakkesh, hanging out on the rooftop of my hotel. Some Gnawi were visiting another guest, and they played their sintars late into the night, inviting me to join their party. I didn’t know anything about Northwestern African desert music back then; and I was entranced by that percussive droning music that sounded Blusey (and that, as it turned out, was also developed in slavery). I ended up staying up all night. Now you can be entranced, too.
