Composer/pianist Shane Simpson is one of those musicians where you can’t tell whether they think they’re supposed to be classical, pop, or jazz. We like that around here. PRNCX is an open-ended ensemble representing composer Steve Long’s project of mashing up the approaches of Queer composers like John Cage, Julius Eastman, Pauline Oliveros, and Cecil Taylor with the procedures of the big band of the non-Queer Duke Ellington (although his musical partner Billy Strayhorn was).
