Alvin Lucier came to attention with soundscapey process pieces for electronics and/or devices and/or jury-rigged found objects. But toward the end of his life, he returned to writing for instrumental ensembles. Which is not to suggest that his music became any less unconventional and unpredictable. As you can hear tonight.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: In person, nice enough bistro at Bacchus. Streaming at home, have an Applejack Rabbit: pour 2 oz. Applejack, 3/4 oz. orange juice, and 1/2 oz. each of lemon juice and maple syrup into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake. Strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist.
