Steve Reich has said that he’s entering a late period with a new approach; we’ll see where Jacob’s Ladder, receiving its world premiere in these performances, fits in. Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto is a warhorse for a reason, and pianist Leif Ove Andsnes has proven himself a sterling exponent. It’s also a piece that Jaap van Zweden should be able to conduct pretty well. Unlike Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, whose mysteries van Zweden should be unable to plumb.
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: You can just make it to Kwame Onwuachi’s in-house Afro-Caribbean smash Tatiana (not to be confused with the one in Brighton Beach). Whether you can get in is another question entirely.
