Jaleel Shaw is a really good sax player, no question about it. But pianist Kris Davis has one of the best minds and some of the best fingers in current jazz.

MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: In person, fancy Austrian at Koloman. Streaming at home, have a Toronto: pour 2 oz. Rye and 1/4 oz. each of Fernet and Simple Syrup, with 2 dashes Angostura bitters, into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Stir. Strain into a chilled Martini glass or coupe. Express an orange peel into the drink and use the peel as garnish.
