The “artist lectures” created by visual artist Suzanne Bocanegra should never work. They’re theatricalized talks, using props and other visual media, given by Bocanegra through the medium of an actor who repeats words fed to them through an earpiece by Bocanegra, sitting on the side of the stage. What’s weird is that they turn out to be fascinating, compelling: a seemingly bad idea gone right. Bocanegra continues her retrospective of these pieces at Skirball this season with one of the first ones (maybe the very first?) and one of the very best, performed by the estimable Paul Lazar. It can only be a coincidence that the title evokes Ladurie.
