Why does this High Romantic song repertoire get Listed? Because Wagner invented the musical avant-garde as we know it, from the self-serving theoretical constructs to the sucking up to the very interests the purportedly revolutionary artists had claimed to seek to supplant. It doesn’t hurt that this music is also great stuff.
