The Kronos Quartet — joined by a staggering array of guests whom they’ve played with over the years — celebrates five decades of musical activity with a gala prospective/retrospective show featuring, among lots else, new pieces by Michael Gordon and Gabriella Smith (who wrote what This List maintains is the best string quartet so far this Century), and a big-band jam on the first piece Terry Riley ever wrote for the Quartet, Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector.
