Of all the composers who are being played more now because they were previously marginalized on grounds of race or gender, Dorothy Rudd Moore (who did not sing “Misty Blue”) is one of my favorites. This was someone who wrote in a stern Mid-Century Modern style — but was a real, gifted melodist underneath. Just listen to the piece the Cassatts are doing — Modes for String Quartet — and tell me you don’t want to hear it again, often. Also, the Zhou Long the Cassatts did Uptown a few nights ago, and a world premiere by Wallace Shawn’s brother (OK, that was cheap).
MAKE A NIGHT OF IT: Excellent coal-oven pizza — and a line — at Juliana’s.
